Fishing Gifts

Most anglers buy their own tackle. They're fussy about it. A print of their own fish is the one fishing gift they won't have bought themselves. Start with their catch photo, or pick a species plate if you can't get hold of one. Budget ideas are below.

Their fish, on their wall

Every angler has a photo they keep coming back to. It might be a PB mirror on the mat, a first pike or a bass off the rocks. Print it as they took it, or see it in one of four house styles first. Their fish. Nobody else's.

Print the photo as it is, or see it in a house style with a free preview, then check the fish before it prints. If you know the fish, look at its scales. They will.

No photo? Here's where to look

Most anglers post their best fish. Their best fish is probably on Facebook or Instagram already. Ask whoever took it for the original file. Screenshots rarely print well. A fishing mate often has the shot on their phone as well. Our guide to getting their photo covers the quiet ways in.

No photo at all? A PB print sets their weight and date in type under a plate of the species. Or use the collection. There are plates for carp, pike, coarse, game and sea anglers, and bankside scenes for anyone who loves being out there.

Fishing gifts by budget

These lists come straight from the catalogue, so the prices match checkout.

Under £20

Small enough for a stocking, and easy to wrap. Or try a fishing mug.

£20 to £50

Bigger posters and smaller canvases. Measure first.

£50 and over

Framed prints and framed canvas, ready to hang the day they arrive.

Who you're buying for

For him

Our fishing gifts for men start with what he fishes for and work from there.

For her

The same rule holds. Start with the fishing she does, not the colour of the wrapping. There's more on that just below.

For dad

Dig out the photo. Fishing gifts for dad covers old prints and shoebox photos too.

For a carp angler

Carp anglers know their fish by the scales, and our carp fishing gifts page explains why that matters when you choose a print.

For a junior angler

A first fish matters more than any PB. Print the photo from that day as it is, and it'll still be on the wall when they're grown.

For the women who fish

Plenty of women fish. The Angling Trust says around 8,600 women and girls are introduced to angling each year through its Get Fishing campaign. That's one in five participants.

Every gift on this site works the same for any angler, whatever they fish for and however long they've been at it. Print their own catch photo, or choose a PB print with the species, weight, their name and the date of the catch. No photo needed. So does a species plate of their favourite fish.

Don't assume pink. Buy for the fishing they actually do. Carp, fly and sea anglers want very different fish on the wall, so look at their photos first. If she's only just started, our guide to women's fishing covers taster sessions, licences and kit.

For the angler who has everything

They've got the bivvy, the alarms and three rods more than they need. Buy for the house. A picture won't compete with the kit they've chosen so carefully, and they can't have bought a print of their own fish already. Our fishing gift ideas guide goes further, with ideas we don't sell. Start there if a print isn't right for them.

Kit: what to buy and what to leave

Leave rods, reels, rigs and bait to the angler. Keep it simple. Everyone sets up differently, and the wrong choice ends up in a drawer. Things that get used whatever they fish for are safer: warm socks and gloves, a good flask, a spare head torch.

Buying for a young angler starting out? Under the GOV.UK licence rules, children under 13 don't need a rod licence, and junior licences for 13 to 16 year olds are free. Anyone older needs one, even on a private lake.

Days out and lessons

A day on the bank with someone who knows the water can beat any present in a box. The Angling Trust licenses coaches across England and lists them on its Get Fishing map, alongside places to fish. Endorsed sessions are listed on its event marketplace. A print of the best fish from that day makes a good follow-up. Book early in the year, when coaches have more dates free.

Christmas

For stocking fillers, winter scenes and when to order, see Christmas fishing gifts. The last order dates show on that page and in your basket once they're set. A styled print needs a preview approved first, so it takes a few days longer than a photo printed as it is. Leave it late? Print the photo as it is, or make a PB print, which needs no photo at all.

Questions, answered

What do you buy a fisherman who has everything?
Something for the wall rather than the tackle box, because a print of their fish is the one thing they can't have bought.
Can I get a print of their catch without them knowing?
Yes, if you can get the photo. Look through their social posts, or ask the friend behind the camera for the original.
What if their photo is blurry or dark?
Upload it and we'll show which sizes it'll print at, since a flash shot at night often holds up at smaller sizes. If it's too soft, a plate from the collection is the safer gift.
